My 2011 Christmas
No fireworks! No usual Christmas noise! No Christmas eve mass (actually there was and there always will be, it’s just that we didn’t attend one here in Dubai, UAE). Going somewhere far is just draining. Please God forgive me. 🙂
But anyway, my wife and IÂ were able to have a Christmas salo-salo or the so-called “Noche Buena”. There’s no lechon baboy but we had “humba (pork adobo), sinugbang baboy (grilled pork), dinuguan (bloody intestines – not sure with this one, lol), sinugbang pusit (grilled squid) etc.
We’re also fortunate to have friends who voluntarily offered and brought Jack Daniel’s Whisky (JD). It was at the same time, a present to the host and a friend who is also celebrating his birthday on Christmas eve.
Minutes after the “Noche Buena”, the session started. 1 JD bottle down. We then proceeded to Karaoke time. Singing out loud with our favorite videoke songs while gulping our glasses of whisky in one hand. Then 2nd JD bottle, down.
Next bottle opened was Fundador brandy, a good drink but not a good kicker for JD. The clock struck 2 and we were headed home. It was fun, although it could’ve been more fun if it was in my home country, the Philippines.
Upon reaching home my wife and I exchanged gifts. Yup, just the two of us. We felt the excitement, joy and all, but then again, it could’ve been different if we were in the Philippines exchanging gifts with our families and especially with our 2-year old baby boy.
It was my fourth Christmas away from my family and 2nd Chistmas away from our baby boy.
God, please don’t let this happen again next year!
