Dubai Tourism Goes App
In 2010, the international tourism receipts settled at US$ 919 billion, this is prior to H1N1 influenza virus outbreak which resulted a worldwide decline according to wikipedia.org
Today, so many countries are on its feet again with big budgets to spend in tourism programs and campaigns for a bigger return in the end. If some cities have been successful with their tourism campaign slogans, i.e. New York’s “I Love New York”, Malaysia’s “Malaysia Truly Asia”, India’s “Incredible India”, some countries also are busy to keep up with the competition. United Kingdom recently launched “Visit Britain” campaign, Philippines’ “It’s More Fun In The Philippines” and Dubai’s 2009 launched “Definitely Dubai” campaign which is in full blast as of this time.
Dubai in particular and UAE as a whole, is also making big spending just to keep with the ever continuing growth of tourism industry. So many hotels were built, mega structures such as the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel, The Palm Islands, The Burj Khalifa, big malls etcetera. Transportation is modernized with the Metro Train inception among others. With these projects, Dubai is sometimes called the land of making impossible possible.
Through Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing DTCM’s official tourism portal DefinitelyDubai.com everything is in there for every visitor to browse and get know the city.
And not just that, one of the major additional steps of Dubai to boost tourism is the launching of Definitely Dubai’s Smartphone App. For everybody to know, this is for free so far. I am not sure though when will it remain to be free.
In wikipedia’s Top 10 most visited cities by estimated number of international visitors by selected year, Dubai ranked 5th, which is not bad at all. With this smartphone app, will Dubai elevates its rank and will Dubai gets a big chunk of the billions of dollars international receipts? That is to be seen.
