Not Just A Regular Shopping Festival
Dubai Summer Surprises And The Long Weekend
As early as 4:00 in the afternoon, we already finished all the workload for the week. That was Thursday, June 14, 2012 which happens to be the first day opening of Dubai Summer Surprises and the start of a long weekend, today till Sunday, June 17, due to the observance of Al Israa Wal Miraaj or the Ascension of Prophet Mohammad.
From work, I went straight to our place to pick up my son and my wife and to Mercato Mall, the Italian inspired mall at Jumeirah Beach Road, Dubai which is just 5 minutes travel from home.
One of the good things during this event, the DSS, is that not only the dropped prices on different items in all the stores of Dubai, but also the entertainment that organizers are giving to the shopper and non-shoppers alike. DSS is just basically the same to that of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), the only difference is the schedule it is being held.
For 14 years now, DSS continues to entertain every mall goers and help alleviate, the long hot summer. The activity runs for one month which started last Thursday.
Please join me enjoying DSS with my pix.

The weather's so hot and humid outside but not inside Mercato. Never wasted time, posed for a snap with a London Royal Guard behind us.

The Dubai Summer Surprises was felt right after the above picture. Queued for a free shaped balloon.

Prior to this pic, we spent an hour inside Mercato's Grand Cinema watching Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, which I will be posting soon. These beautiful Brits did entertain the children who were gathered and attracted by their singing-story-telling style. From simple ABC song to Sound of Music songs.

Tired laughing from Madagascar, he fell asleep. But it was cut short upon hearing the singing-story-tellers.

With the double faced clown who frightened the kids, on their way out of the mall heading for another performance to another mall.

And our tummies complained. Pizza hut express with their service express, our hunger's gone expressing-ly fast. LOL! Just trying to rhyme it out.

Another reason why Dubai Summer Surprises is called as such. For 200 Dhs purchase, you can have a raffle entry ticket to win this Cadillac SRX. Whew! Mercato is just one of the so many malls, stores and shops all over Dubai that are giving away vehicles like this one.
And we went home tired but happy. While writing this post, my wife and I are discussing on which mall we are going to visit tomorrow and be surprised once again. 🙂 There goes our first activity of this year’s DSS and of the long weekend that we are enjoying.
Cheers!

Thanks for that Gerilen! Visit Dubai then soon… 🙂
i have heard a lot of good and bad things about dubai, but basing from your photos, it seems like the philippines where big malls dominate the filipino lives 🙂
wow it was indeed a fun family day…
I spend a lot of time on malls too during summer. Free air-con! haha~
Glad you had a nice time, and the mall didn’t have that many people? Bringing a kid to a mall here in the Philippines is too much hassle. It’s so hard to move around :/
Nah, this is just one of the so many malls in Dubai. Mercato is a bit smaller compared to malls like Dubai Festival City, City Centre, Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Batutta Mall and many others. And yes not many people are coming here but mostly locals. 🙂
Nice family bonding..For sure you had a wonderful day!
looks like a really fun day for you guys.. I wish we could go there as well.. maybe next year…… =)
You sure did have a great time guys! Thanks for sharing your adventure! Great captures!
It’s so cool that they have a lot of activities in the mall! Did you have to pay for any activities you want to join?
And the pizza look so yummy! Did it taste the same as pizza in the Pizza Hut Philippines? 🙂
Nice photos. Your kids look like they really enjoyed every moment of it. Good to hear about family life out there.
