What Makes An Office Staff Fat?
Always Eating Sweets Is No Sweet At All
One of my latest personal realizations is that most people in offices, are getting fat. No offense meant to those who are, I am actually one of the many who have problems in gaining weight.
Our department is a multi-cultural, comprising of individuals coming from different places and countries, bringing each one’s pride and glory; but there is this one thing in the office that makes us one. The sweetness of us. 🙂
In one whole calendar year, there’s not a month that nobody’s on leave for vacation. When he/she comes back from vacation, souvenirs or coming home gifts (we Filipinos call it pasalubong) and sweets are normally to be expected.
When someone got a “difficult-to-acquire Dubai’s driving license”, an email will then be forwarded, CC to all, that donuts and other sweets are being kept near someone’s desk for us to nibble.
When the team hits the target being set for the month, the manager will then send out boxes of another sweet donuts.
When somebody has to leave the company for good, (especially those who have saved enough fortune, LOL), aside from sumptuous food being served at the canteen or sometimes outside the office restos, sweets are also in the scene.
Any great news like having newborn baby, a colleague being promoted and shifted to another department, sweets are ubiquitous to celebrate the occasion!
Just recently, our manager’s daughter got a new job, which is one of the best reasons to celebrate; she then introduced to us one of India’s delicacies called Gulab Jamun. A very popular dessert among Indians as well as Pakistanis, which is made out of fried milk balls soaked in sweet syrup.
This kind of sweets is not just an average kind. Its sweetness is so heavy and thick that really gives you utmost satisfaction especially when you have it after lunch or any other meal of the day.
This “sweetness of us” kind of thing aside from the chips and other junkie snacks kept on everybody’s desk drawers, is one the culprits why lots of us are gaining so much weight. Keeping the chairs warm everyday and not having much movement or exercise, will just make you even bigger.
Here’s the Scientific explanation of sweets making people fat:
I bumped into this article from Time.com about a somewhat solution to the problem among us office personnel which is entitled “Bosses, please replace the donuts (and sweets) with kiwi”.
Which is like, yeah, why not? I mean, this is a lot healthier compared to sweets, right? If we are after its meaning and the belief of having a sweet life by sharing sweets, I think eating fruits and being healthy and fruitful is equally meaningful or even better. What you think eh?!
