Banning Kids From Cinemas After 7pm Receives Mixed Responses
A Move That Would Hit Local Movie Industry Badly
After treating our son to two Cinema movies, a news came out from a local newspaper about the banning of children after past 7 pm. The news has mixed reactions from the viewing public. Some called it stupid and some called it a great move.
But as I read the news, I learned that one of the reasons why Cinema owners made such move is based on complaints from other viewers they received that children often make some noises and distract their watching. Which for me is not a valid reason at all. The fact that a movie has a General (G) rating, children is expected to be among the viewers and we should know and expect children’s behavior. Giving such kind reason made me think that Cinema owner who implemented this policy is not doing his research.
Perhaps, if the reason of banning children is based on a medical perspective, that loud sounds are not good for them, then I think it would be okay.
Children has the right to watch a movie and that banning them after 7 is not a good idea. Most parents have work and this time is the best time to be out with children to cinemas. If this policy continues, I think local cinema movie industry will have its downturn, financially. Got no statistics to back it up but in my personal view, children contribute a big percentage to the total cinema movie viewers.
Just very recently also, another news broke out about a shooting incident that happened during Dark Knight Rises showing in Colorado in the US. This should not be made as another reason also for banning children since the incident is considered an isolated case. The time, and what particular movie has nothing to do with the incident.
Anyway those were just my thoughts. What do you think guys with this kind of move? What if this kind of policy will be implemented also in your locality? Would you be okay with it?
I guess there are still advantage and disadvantage of this policy. Staying awake late night is one of them.
I cannot relate here at this moment sisnce my son is not yet allowed to go to movie houses.
I’m actually for this move. Children shouldn’t be out and about so late at night. If a movie starts at 7, it’ll end around 9 or 10 which is beyond their proper bedtime. Ido understand that some parents are busy with work, but that’s what weekends are for – to spend the entire day with the family. But that’s just my opinion.
When I was a kid, we go to movies at night. Didn’t seem to have a bad effect on me. Right now, I don’t get it.
for me if this policy will be implemented in our city, it’s fine with me. we usually watched movies on Sunday afternoon after church. at 7 pm we’re already at home cuddling on bed reading and playing with my child..this is just my opinion:)
For me it won’t affect me a lot if there is such a ban as I rather watch the movie on DVD or online stream as it is too costly to bring the whole family to the theatres so often nowadays.
I will go for it… But of course there will be advantages and disadvantages to be considered,
Hmm its was only now that I’ve learned about this policy.. well its actually fine with me especially because we dont usually go out for a movie late night..
In general I’m opposed to bringing kids in malls because it’s too crowded and there’s no proper place to hang out. You’re right about the reason though~ why complain when kids are rowdy for films that are for kids anyway~ XD
If you really must bring your kid to a cinema…wouldn’t weekends be better? Then again there’s probably more people on weekends :/
So now am confused Lady. LOL! Should I be bringing my son again to a cinema? Just kidding. Anyway, I am still for ” in everything, there is moderation”.
We had the same experience Rae. 🙂
I would understand if the reason of time cut-off for children is for their safety or health related say children must not stay up till late at night, for me its acceptable. On the other hand, its not everyday a movie made specially for kids is being shown so to limit the should be viewing time of children simply because other viewers get distracted of their noise is unacceptable. We are all children once……
Very well said Gaylee and I must say, we’re like on the save wavelength on this matter. 🙂
