Movie: Ice Age 4 – Continental Drift
Watching Ice Age 4 Movie Was Another Milestone For Our 2 Year Old Son
It was just last week when we had our son’s first movie cinema. Though he was a little startled when we went inside the dark and loud theater at first and fell asleep minutes before the movie ended, I know that he enjoyed watching Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.
Last Thursday, June Β 28, was the premiere of our another most awaited cartoon/animation movie, Ice Age 4 here in Dubai, UAE. The trailer we have watched during Madagascar was so effective and that enticed us to watch the full movie, which we did. π
We first secured two tickets to avoid any problem, since it was end of the week and end of the month, most of the people were out and most were queuing to movie houses like us. The movie had to start at 9. We had our dinner first. Had some little toy “clawing” at Mercato mall’s Fun City and went back to cinema.
This time, when we entered the movie room, it was as if, our son knows already what it was. I told my wife and she agreed that our son is now loving it. But I am hoping though this will not turn into a movie addiction because by the time he reaches 3, he’s no longer free and we will need to pay additional Dhs 35/- then, which is going to be a bit heavy. LOL! For now, he is still enjoying it for free.
From that first scene, where this funny, big-eyed, little squirrel smashed its acorn nut into the frozen ground, the three of us and the rest inside the Β movie room couldn’t stop laughing. From time to time also, both my wife and I tried to squeeze some trivia chat with our son like telling him that the giant elephant-like named Manny is not an elephant at all but an extinct mammal called mammoth. We know he cannot absorbed all those kind of stuff but somehow, some part of it is now being stored in his thoughts.

The movie focuses about the importance of family bond, that no matter what happens, your family should always be the first in your thoughts and in your heart. This was shown when Manny courageously fought the antagonist Gigantopithecus, hostile ape named Gutt just to rescue and defend his family and the rest of the herd from captivity.
The romantic scenes between Shira (voiced by Jennifer Lopez) and Diego, both tiger-like smilodons, added attraction to the movie. But Sid’s, the sloth comic never failed to give us big laughs. The one of the additional characters, Sid’s Granny also added the film’s comedy.
This film’s Box Office didn’t turn out well in its first few weeks but if I may rate it again with my usual rating scheme 1 to 10 and 10 as the highest? I’m giving it 15. π π π Why? Because our son finished the entire movie, without sleeping in the end part, meaning he really enjoyed watching it, which was a milestone for him also.
To those who haven’t watched it yet, I may have spoiled you a bit, (excuse me for that) but it is worth watching for, especially with your kids.
Cheers!

It’s cool how you and your wife are exposing your son to movies at such an early age. But yeah, one needs to “take advantage” of things while it’s free. :))
When will it be showing here in PI? I want to watch that, too!
i’d like to watch this movie too.
How cool! I was 12 when I first saw a cinema. I enjoyed the previous Ice Age movies, and looking forward to this one.
We were actually hesitant at first but good that he loved it. π
I bet you’ll enjoy this sequel too Dani. π
I haven’t seen a movie for a long-long time and my kids have never watched a movie in the cinema house. But they have watched all Ice Age movies on DVD – the cheaper way to do it.
hubby and i are actually thinking of taking our son to a cinema..i think this would be a good movie for his first time π
wow I bet the movie’s great specially for kids. week. Looking forward to it. ..if your boy was able to watch it till the end, I bet it’s really great π
Then why not do it this time Chin? π You know, to share with them that different feeling inside a cinema house. But if you are willing to wait for the DVD release, would also be fine.
Hi Kath, I would recommend this movie to you all especially to your son. Aside from being a hilarious movie, there is a moral lesson that your son will be getting. π
sure it is a great movie genefaith. π
It’s ok, a little bit of spoiler will not do harm, it just makes me excited to watch it with my daughter. =)
I have yet to see this with my daughter. I’m sure she’ll love it. So will I π
Awww…I was able to watch only the first one…lol still a kid at heart. Anyway, I like stories about families and this is a good way of inculcating that value in kids in the way they can understand, through movies, and of course in real life.
