T’was already 3o minutes passed 11:00 in the evening when my sister-in-law received a call from her employer that she needs to have medical exam the next morning and was told to secure 6 copies of her passport-sized photo. Unprepared, got only minutes before midnight and then there was a sort of panic. She tried to scram to the nearby Kodak photo center, but it’s already closed. Went back to the apartment, frustrated.
She needs to be at the bus stand by 8:30 the next morning to take the bus going to the neighbouring emirate of Dubai for the medical exam. Photo centers usually open late in the morning. I started to feel a bit worried too, but still had a little hope with me. I know how important the requirements were and going to medical without them would end up some schooling of the sponsor and that alone would be a bad impression.
I went out, with a plan to circle Dubai to look for a 24-hour printing shop or photo center. First, I headed to the always busy Sheikh Zayed Road (Crowne Plaza Dubai side) but shops were already closed. Second, I tried dropping at Union Cooperative Society at the back of Chelsea Tower and then Mazaya Centre, but there was none. I headed straight at the same road and few meters drive, I saw the facáde of Desco, all lit-up and then there was total relief.
Businesswise, Desco’s strategy to keep that SZR branch 24-7 is a very good one. When I entered the shop, the two personnel were still answering calls and receiving printing requests through online aside from customers who were inside and on queue. That’s how feasible it is.
But fortunately, just several minutes waiting, I was entertained and got what I want. Went home, and everybody’s ready to sleep. I didn’t know what got me, I just went straight to bed and just told my wife, unsuccessful instead. I kept the good news with me but shared it with them the next morning. Hahahaha.
If it’s not with Desco, I don’t know what happened to my sister-in-law’s medical exam.
