Asha’s Restaurant At Wafi For Your Contemporary Indian Cuisine Cravings
Exclusive Lunch In Asha’s Restaurant At Wafi
Indian cuisine is by far among the top few cuisines that continues to conquer the world. Known for its usually rich and flavorful tang that every one would always long for.
As my sort of throwback first experience of Indian cuisine when I first came to Dubai almost a decade ago, I could not forget how snappy I fell in love with their famous Chicken or Mutton Biryani. And to get that perfect meal is to pair it with the equally famous and tasty recipe, which is the thin, crisp disc-shaped seasoned dough called Papad or Papadum.
That is why when I received the exclusive lunch invitation from Asha’s Restaurant At Wafi, to try their latest coastal menu, I didn’t hesitate to take part in.
Located in one of the pyramids of Wafi Mall, the award-winning Asha’s Restaurant offers not just exquisite contemporary Indian cuisine, but also offers great staff, service and cool sophisticated place. This family-friendly and non-smoking resto has a seating capacity of 100 in its indoor and 40 in its open air terrace.
The Legendary Asha Bhosle
Who’s behind this contemporary Indian cuisine restaurant? Well, the living legend, Asha Bhosle or commonly called Ashaji. An acclaimed Indian singer “known by her voice range and versatility. She sings film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeets. Apart from Hindi, she has sung in over 20 Indian and foreign languages”.
Guinness World Records certified that feat as the Most Studio Recording (singles) by an artist. See pic below.
But why she ventures into food and what prompts her into this kind of world? These are her words:
My early childhood was spent moving from one town to another with my father’s travelling theatre company.“The Company” had food together, with my father presiding as the head of the table. I enjoyed watching the joy on the diners’ faces as they savoured tasty delights. I suppose, this was my inculcation into the fine art of cooking. – Asha Bhosle
Back To The Coastal Voyage
The temperature outside when we came at Wafi was hitting near 50°C and the rich fruit cocktail juice as welcome drink right away made me forget about it. Then Asha’s fantastic and special food came simultaneously for everyone to savor. Invited Bloggers and Media then focused on the Costal Voyage.
Starters
Cheese Broccoli
The melted cheese along with other spices gave that aromatic smell to the steamed/baked broccoli which has retained its crisp and fresh flavour. I didn’t waste time and had it instagrammed with a caption: “they had my wife at cheese broccoli”. 🙂
Seafood Seekh Kabab
Very tender and gives you that real flavor of the sea.
Chicken Tikka
Just with the right spiciness, tender and tasty.
Calamari
So far, a true calamari I’ve tasted for years when it comes to tenderness. A little chewy that won’t give that problem of sticking between your teeth.
That big tiger prawn culminates the intro of our lunch. With the authentic Indian hospitality from Asha’s Restaurant, as we progress to our mains, I realized that we were like pampered with the non-stop filling of food onto our plates. That I could no longer grab my phone to continue snapping our mains. But here’s what we have devoured.
Main Course
Dal Makhani – So rich and so flavorful that I would love to order it again on my next visit soon
Paneer Masala – It was like having a tofu but soft and salty-licious tang
Rogan Josh – The lamb dish was so perfect for both rice and the Indian bread Roti
Murg Rasam Curry – How can you go wrong with an Indian curry? The succulent chicken meat sums up all the goodness of the lunch
Deserts were served after like the ever so famous Gulab-jamon but my second round fruit cocktail juice made me want no more. Although this coastal menu of Asha’s is for limited period only, I’d be coming back there soon with my wife and would include any of their best Biryanis.
