I Simply Hate Star Wars
Star Wars – Sort of Review
I hate Star Wars – I wasn’t born yet when the first Star Wars movie or the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope; conquered the world of cinema and became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. Three years after, a second sequel came out, the Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; another 3 years and exactly 7 months before I was born, the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi was released. Â So all three were way before my time.
Same thing happened to the second set of prequels. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace; out in 1999. Money was needed for tuition fees for my first year in college. đ Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones; out in 2002. Still got no extra dough to watch the movie. đ  Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith; out in 2005. Got my first serious job this time but with a salary only good for monthly dues and other minor bachelor needs. All due to financial difficulties I must say, that I never gave Star Wars a chance.
I always got nothing to contribute when friends start talking about how the movie came up, especially the prequels. This was the time when I started to appreciate and love Hollywood films but only get to watch them on HBO channel from a friend’s cable TV.
I would just stare at those rich kids blankly, wearing Storm Trooper and Darth Vader costumes in every party and occasions with their plastic blasters and lightsabers. I felt envious I admit.
Second to Kurt Cobain or Nirvana’s t-shirt merchandise, I think is the Star Wars t-shirt merchandise, in terms of number of people I see wearing them; or perhaps it’s the other way around. Excuse my statistics. LOL! But then, I never got to own any of those no nonsense and expensive merchandise, which contributed to “the total franchise value of Star Wars to $30.7 billion, as of 2012.”
I have not contributed a penny to that figure. D*mn! But thank you George Lucas for that.
Moving on and fast forward, December 2015. Storm Trooper and Darth Vader costumes are again, everywhere! Seems like this Star Wars thing has always been mocking me especially now that lots of the scenes of the Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which was released just last month of last year, were shot in Abu Dhabi. Just an hour drive from Dubai, where I am currently based.
Star Wars has been teasing and mocking me, ever since. Ever since when I wasn’t born yet. And it followed me from my debt- ridden country the Philippines to this much progressive country of United Arab Emirates.
With all these, I finally realized that I hate Star Wars.
And that hate continued when my son asked me and my wife to watch The Force Awakens. I hate the fact that my son even knows majority of the characters even before watching the movie.
Lastly, I despised it even more, now that I’ve watched it for the first time. Because this now means, I need to do some real digging and watching all those previous trilogies before the second movie of this latest and third set of trilogy be released.
I also need to get an answer, as to why, where and how did Rey got those immense force that made Kylo Ren weak.
I have just followed Daisy Ridley’s Instagram account, by the way.
