Spicy and Ginger Thai Resto: Hidden Gem, Discovered
Authentic Thai Restaurant in Bay Square, Business Bay, Dubai
With so many businesses like restaurants for that matter, that are closing due to Covid-19, the family were thrilled to see this restaurant in Bay Square, Business Bay; the Spicy and Ginger Thai Restaurant.
It was not in our original plan of restaurant to visit. This resto was even empty when we came, but its well lit and insta-worthy interior caught our attention, so we settled in.

While browsing their menu, I was also hoping that we’ve made the right decision. It’s been awhile now that we haven’t had Thai food.

The Food
Calamari Fried Set for Yana (not pictured). It comes with fried calamari, vegetable sticks, and rice or French fries. Yana opted for rice. For Dhs 35/-. And Thai style Shrimp Omelette for Dhs 35/-.
Chicken Wing Set for Yuri (not pictured). It comes with fried chicken wings, vegetable sticks, and rice or French fries. Yuri opted for rice too. For Dhs 35/-.
We ordered Seafood Tom Yum for Dhs 42/-. Pan-grilled marinated Thai style Beef Brisket (Seua Rong Hai) for Dhs 50/-. And the Whole Steamed Seabass (Pla Neung See Ew) for Dhs 89/-. 1 cup of Jasmine rice for me (for Dhs 5/-).
The Taste
We all shared the Seafood Tom Yum soup except for Yana, because she still can’t handle foods with even just a hint of heat. Tom Yum has always been my personal starter choice as it really opens your appetite for the meal. There were 3 or 4 of each deveined giant prawns and squid rings. They were perfectly cooked as they’re very tender yet a bit chewy. But I always had this hunch since restaurants have the same ingredients for their Tom Yum; lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, shallots and tomatoes. That they’d taste the same, but this one in Spicy and Ginger was very rich and the spicyness and sourness was just perfectly balanced. It was just so good.
The grilled Marinated Beef Brisket also stood out. Aside from its tenderness, its flavor complements with the spicy and sour taste of the Tom Yum. It must have been cooked with E-san sauce. E-san sauce usually has these ingredients. Fish sauce, tamarind, water, palm sugar, chilli, spring onion, long coriander leaves, mint leaves, roasted glutinous rice.
Then the Whole Steamed Seabass with special sauce and ginger was the highlight of the meal. And it was sizzling when it was served on a platter. Full of spices and herbs that you can smell the aroma of the fish. Its white and fatty meat filled with Omega-3 goodness, is also our kids’ favorite. It almost got me tempted to add one cup of rice. But I thank the heavens for reminding me of my bike session the next day. It’s difficult to pedal when you had a heavy (full of rice) meal the night before. Trust me.
I was a bit sweaty due to the heat of the chopped red chillies in the Steamed Seabass. I munched them as well. Add to that was my Spicy and Ginger Mocktail drink that also has a kick! It was cold but it contains ginger, chilli, lime and soda. And I recommend you to having it on your visit. The kids and the wifey just had cold water. I finished the meal all pumped up.
